Journalist or Poet?

“Do you want to be a journalist or do you want to be a poet?”

My painting journey began with my first lesson in March 2013. About 2 years later, I was painting with a group of friends one evening, and one of the more accomplished members of our group was looking over my shoulder while I was painting.
She saw me struggling to paint exactly what I saw in front of me; or journalism.
The quote above comes from her, and I have never forgotten it. It became the proverbial lightbulb going on in my head from that day forward, when I was inadvertently pursuing a journalistic approach to my subject matter. BE THE POET!
This may sound a little crazy but it is easier to paint tight, (journalistically) than it is to paint loosely (poetry). I believe that my current path as an artist is now that of a poet.
