Is It Done?

This is a great question for artists. In our home, my studio and my wife’s office are both on the second floor within ear-shot of each other. Quite often, especially in my earlier days, when I would shout out an expletive while I was painting, Sandy immediately knew that I had 'gone too far' and subsequently that I felt the painting was 'overworked'. I could hear her laughing.
As an impressionist who desires to have my finished pieces appear loose, overworking a painting typically means that it is getting 'tighter' and relinquishing much of that desired looseness.
Below are some images of the process of developing one of my rowboat paintings. Hopefully, I did not overwork this one!
